Ummeed Child Development Center, Mumbai, in collaboration with Narrative Practices, Adelaide and Re-authoring Teaching, Vermont is offering a one-year (part-time) Mental Health Training Program.
The one year certificate course includes 4 teaching blocks spread throughout the year between January to October: the first block is of 8 days and the remaining 3 blocks are of 5 days each. The teaching blocks are from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
The program covers basic skills in counseling, overview to developmental disabilities and other mental illnesses in the first block. The other 3 blocks will cover a thorough grounding in the ideas and practices of Narrative approaches to working with individuals, families, groups and communities. Narrative therapy is a respectful, non blaming approach to counseling which centres people as the experts to their own life.
After the first 2 blocks, there will be half day supervision once every week from April till December 2015. During these supervisions, candidates will be able to discuss their cases as well as discuss their experience of using the skills/ techniques taught and gain more practice.
Candidates from out of town will need to come to Mumbai to attend the 4 teaching blocks and the weekly supervision can be done on Skype.
